| 2005 CAPA Nominee and 5 Hearts.... The opening scene to this story is just perfect; no other way to describe it. It is just about the most vivid description of a man in love that Ive seen in many a story. The plot running parallel is suspenseful and very well written. An excellent story and most definitely a recommended read for all romantic suspense fans... The Romance Studio |

| An excerpt from Mountain High They lingered over coffee until it became obvious the wait staff would like to go home some time tonight. Chris paid the bill and left Tyler standing inside the door while he went to get her SUV. He was back, on foot, a few minutes later. She walked out to meet him. “What’s wrong?” “You have a flat. And your spare is flat, too.” A cold finger of unease traced its way down Tyler’s spine. She told herself not to be ridiculous. She was not in Reno anymore. “Oh, great. I checked that spare before I left Nevada. It was fine.” She reached for her cell phone to call her roadside assistance provider. “Tell you what. I’ll go see if I can get us two coffees while you call. Then we can wait in the truck.” He made it sound like an adventure. She smiled and agreed. He was back within a few minutes with the coffee. They settled down inside the SUV to wait for the tow truck. “I’m parking with Tyler Morgan,” Chris said and let out a long, exaggerated sigh. Tyler laughed at him, pushed her seat back, and set her coffee in the cup holder beside her. She laid her hand on his arm. “Yes, you are. Are you going to waste the opportunity?” “No. I’m not.” He raised her hand to his lips. They maneuvered around in the close quarters until Tyler ended up on his lap. He hit the release on the seat and laid them back. Her heart started to pound as he kissed her gently and she felt her soul stretch towards his. The rightness of it brought tears to her eyes. “I want you, Tyler. Come home with me,” he whispered against her ear. “I can’t. Not yet. I have too many doubts about myself right now.” He tightened his hold on her for a moment, a brief hug, and kissed her cheek. She wondered if he could feel her heart thudding in her chest. He toyed with a strand of her hair. “I didn’t mean to push you. I really didn’t mean to even ask you that yet. Is it okay to just hold you?” “Yeah, just sitting here is very nice.” She shifted around, laid her head on his shoulder, and relaxed. “I had a few bad times in Reno,” she said quietly. “I need to take it slow. Keep my feet under me.” He pulled her hair loose from its comb ran his fingers through it, and then smoothed it down. “Do you want to tell me about it?” he asked. “Not yet.” “Okay, Ty. We go slowly. But, we go. Deal?” “Deal. The tow truck is coming.” The yellow flashing lights swirled around them reminded Tyler of the carnivals she’d gone to when she was a child. Being in Chris’ arms made her feel like that child again—safe. And alive. Very alive. |
